CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate, and is a nonprofit organization that supports and promotes court-appointed volunteer advocacy so every child who has experienced abuse or neglect can be safe, have a permanent home, and the opportunity to thrive. Common Grounds Community Garden is more than just a garden, it’s a garden with a mission! Common Grounds aims to provide a community gathering space, education around gardening, and promote sustainability by composting and finding new uses for discarded items. The Democratic Club of Phelps County is a local group that is focused on getting people involved in the Democratic process and providing support to individuals running for state official seats. They had a voter registration table at our Phelps Pride 2022. You can find out more on their website or Facebook page .

Planned Parenthood – Rolla Health Center: located on Kingshighway, started as a Planned Parenthood in the 1970s before Tri-Rivers Family Planning was established in 2011. Planned Parenthood will continue its legacy as a high-quality, expert sexual and reproductive health care provider in south-central Missouri. Patients can access the full spectrum of preventive care including birth control, STI testing and treatment, annual exams, gender-affirming care, and vasectomies. There is a support group in Waynesville, Mo that serves the counties of Pulaski, Laclede, and Phelps. They accept individuals as young as 15, adults and elders are also welcome to join! Flyer on Gender Affirming page!

These organizations and businesses are supportive of LGBTQ identities, in the personal experiences from the board members of LGBTQ Rolla. Many need the human power of volunteers, others rely heavily on the community for funding.

Another method of involvement is attending /watching city council meetings. Rolla City Council information. Individuals can contact the city council to be added to the agedenda or choose to speak at the citizen communication time. Any individuals who are interested in speaking on LGBTQ issues might also benefit the Facebook group, Rolla Equity in Action. This group is working to increase awareness of how individuals can advocate for LGBTQ issues at city council meetings and can assist you in preparing for a meeting.
